New Year’s Eve in Seoul saw the red carpet rolled out on KBS, celebrating the station’s 2025 Drama Awards while ushering the path towards 2026. Out of the Big 3 broadcasters, KBS arguably struggled the most with their prime time drama offerings this past year. But they do still standout for continuing to cultivate a mix of formats, from daily dramas and serial weekenders to short form dramas, on top of the more standard miniseries fare.
With the event hosted by Jang Sung-kyu, Nam Ji-hyun, and Moon Sang-min, this year’s grand prize was split between the main two leads of For Eagle Brothers: Eom Ji-won and Ahn Jae-wook. Both are first-time winners and gave an emotional speech – particularly Eom – paying respect to last year’s daesang winner, the late Lee Soon-jae.
Lee Soon-jae’s last drama was KBS’s Dog Knows Everything in 2024 and the team prepared a special segment in his memory, including a performance of My Way, which was one of Lee’s favorite songs. Sung here by musical/theater actor Kai, Kai was Lee Soon-jae’s co-star in the 2024 stage production of Waiting for Godot.
