For years, PRISTIN’s disbandment has remained one of K-Pop’s most frustrating “what ifs.” They had talent, public recognition, Produce 101 momentum, awards, a solid debut, and fans who were ready to support them. Then, almost overnight, it felt like everything stopped.
Now, former member Jung Eunwoo is drawing attention after speaking about what happened behind the scenes.
In a recent Instagram Reel, Jung Eunwoo opened up about PRISTIN’s sudden halt in activities and eventual disbandment. While she did not appear to accuse anyone directly, her comments immediately caught the attention of longtime fans who felt they aligned with years of speculation that the group had been neglected by Pledis Entertainment.
I started training when I was in my third year of middle school. Naturally, Pledis was my first company, and it was the first company for all of the members, too. We ended up going on Produce 101 and even making our debut. We were a group that had a lot of promise, and I had really high expectations, too.

PRISTIN debuted in 2017 under Pledis Entertainment with the mini-album Hi! PRISTIN and the title track “WEE WOO.” The group quickly became one of the most talked-about girl groups of their generation, especially as members Nayoung and Kyulkyung had already gained massive popularity through Produce 101 and I.O.I.
Despite the promising start, PRISTIN’s group activities came to a sudden slowdown after their second mini-album SCHXXL OUT in August 2017. The group later promoted through the unit PRISTIN V in 2018, but full group activities never properly resumed.
In May 2019, Pledis Entertainment officially announced PRISTIN’s disbandment, stating that the company had held “thorough discussions and deliberation” with the members before reaching the decision.

At the time, the announcement shocked fans. PRISTIN had only debuted two years earlier, and many could not understand why a group with such a strong lineup and early traction would be brought to an end so quickly.
The confusion only grew over time. For years, fans have speculated that the group was not given enough support after debut, especially as Pledis was also involved with other projects and groups during the same period.
Jung Eunwoo’s recent comments have now reignited that discussion.
I can’t talk about the whole story in detail, but the company had a lot of groups besides us, and there were a lot of things they had to pay attention to. As things kept getting pushed back, I don’t think the opportunities really made it all the way to us.
At the time, there were definitely parts that were difficult and hard to deal with. But looking back on it now, I think it was an incredibly valuable and good experience. Because of that, I’m able to communicate with you all like this now.
Even if I went back in time, I think I would choose that same job again, join that same company again, and do everything the same way. That’s how much I don’t regret it.

To many fans, her remarks felt like the closest thing to confirmation that PRISTIN’s downfall was not simply a matter of the group lacking potential. Instead, they believe the group was left without the consistent management, promotions, and long-term planning needed to keep going.
This is not the first time Jung Eunwoo has reflected on her career as an idol. In a recent interview, she spoke honestly about the difficult emotions she experienced after devoting so many years of her youth to becoming a singer. “It’s true that I spent my teenage years up to my early 20s fully devoted, so back then, I was a bit exhausted and had a lot of resentment,” she said. She also admitted that there was a sense of emptiness after her idol dream came to an end, explaining that she had grown up knowing only singing and dancing. Still, she eventually accepted the situation and began thinking about what she could do next.

After PRISTIN’s disbandment, Jung Eunwoo re-debuted in HINAPIA alongside former PRISTIN members Minkyeung, Gyeongwon, and Yaebin, as well as member Bada. However, HINAPIA also disbanded in 2020.
These days, Jung Eunwoo is living a very different life. She currently works as a consultation manager at a plastic surgery clinic in Gangnam and has been reconnecting with fans through social media.
