Broadcaster Hong Seok Cheon drew attention by recalling the time he became the father of two children.
On August 9th, an episode of the web variety show Psick Show was released on the YouTube channel Psick University.
In the video, Hong Seok Cheon shared the story of adopting the two children of his sister, who had divorced, and raising them as his own.
He recalled that his sister was “very thankful” at the time. However, he noted that the sudden change might have caused confusion for the young nephew and niece. Hong Seok Cheon empathized with the children, saying, “The kids must have been a little confused. Their uncle was becoming their dad.”
He also revealed that he eased the children’s tension with his characteristic humor. Hong Seok Cheon said, “‘You know your uncle is rich, right? Good apartment, nice car, when I die, it’ll all be yours,’” which brought laughter. He added, “Just kidding, but the kids were really happy.”
Previously, Hong Seok Cheon had also revealed a deeper reason behind his decision to adopt his nephew and niece on a show. He didn’t plan to adopt from the start, but after his sister, who was raising two kids alone following the divorce, decided to pursue a new life, he wanted to support her.
He explained that after learning an uncle could adopt his nephews and nieces, he consulted with the children and redefined their family relationships. He also told his sister that if she found a new love, she should pursue her happiness, assuring her, “I will take responsibility for the kids.”
His adopted daughter also confessed on TV Chosun’s Joseon’s Lover that “after being adopted by my uncle, my life completely changed,” gaining psychological stability. She touched hearts by revealing she has never regretted becoming Hong Seok Cheon’s daughter. Hong Seok Cheon himself once said, “If it weren’t for you two, what meaning would I have to work and earn money?” emphasizing how important the two children are in his life.
Now, with his daughter’s wedding approaching and becoming in-laws, Hong Seok Cheon’s story of being a reliable pillar for the two children since becoming a father figure has warmed hearts once again.
