Dee Hsu Sparks Heartbreak With Her Longing For Late Sister Barbie Hsu

Broadcaster Dee Hsu expressed her enduring longing for her late older sister Barbie Hsu, revealing that she dreams of her almost every night.

On September 1st, VOGUE released Dee Hsu photo shoot and interview featured on the cover of its September 2026 issue. This shoot was especially meaningful as Dee Hsu was the sole cover star.

In the interview, Dee Hsu openly shared her feelings from the time after losing her sister Barbie Hsu until her return to work.

Regarding her comeback, she said, “I think it’s still a bit early for me to return. It’s only been about a year,” admitting, “There are still many emotions left in my heart.”

Nevertheless, she decided to stand in front of the camera again largely because of the encouragement from those around her.

Dee Hsu said that not only the production team but also her mother wanted to see her rise again, explaining, “I thought it was better to go outside and face everything bravely than to stay home mourning.”

Especially when mentioning her late sister Barbie Hsu, a deep longing was conveyed. Dee Hsu confessed, “I dream of my sister almost every day.” Even in her dreams, their lives are much like before—they host shows together, work, take photos, or attend gatherings.

Not all dreams are happy, though. Sometimes things go well, sometimes not, sometimes they feel joyful, sometimes not. Dee Hsu described these moments as “just like before.” Although she can no longer meet her sister in reality, in her dreams, they still share ordinary daily life.

She also spoke honestly about moments when she hides her sadness. While trying to appear strong in front of her three daughters, she sometimes secretly sheds tears alone in her room. At those times, her daughters come to comfort her with hugs.

At the end of the interview, Dee Hsu was asked what she would say if the 20-year-old Dee Hsu asked her now what it means to be an adult.

Her answer reflected the past year perfectly: “Becoming an adult is not easy. You have to face many things. Events you thought were far from you can suddenly happen. You have to be ready to accept that.”

Dee Hsu has tattooed the character “媛”, derived from Barbie Hsu’s name, on the back of her neck. Though her sister is gone, Barbie Hsu remains present in many parts of her life.

Barbie Hsu suddenly passed away last February at age 48 after contracting the flu during a family trip to Japan, which developed into pneumonia. Dee Hsu mourned, saying, “I was happy to live as my sister’s younger sibling in this lifetime.”

Barbie Hsu was also well known in Korea for her love story with DJ Koo. They dated for about a year in the late 1990s before breaking up and moving on with their lives. Barbie Hsu married Chinese businessman Wang Xiao Fei in 2011 and had two children but divorced in 2021.

Afterward, DJ Koo contacted Barbie Hsu using her phone number from about 20 years earlier, reconnecting their relationship. The reunited couple registered their marriage in 2022, becoming a hot topic in Korea and Taiwan for their love story reunited after many years.

However, about three years into the marriage, Barbie Hsu passed away suddenly, leaving DJ Koo widowed. He stayed in Taiwan to commemorate her and was often seen visiting her gravesite, as reported by local media, further stirring sympathy.
