American actor Ansel Elgort has found himself in hot water in Korea over his fashion choice.

The actor was seen attending a celebrity-studded event in Seoul this Wednesday, marking the opening of this year’s Frieze Seoul, held at the Leeum Museum. Elgort arrived at the venue sporting a yukata— a summer version of the traditional Japanese kimono. He paired the outfit with Jordans and a huge torquoise pendant necklace.
The look has now gone viral across online communities in Korea, with netizens tearing him apart for the wardrobe choice. Some believed that the actor was so ignorant that he couldn’t differentiate between Japanese and Korean traditional clothing. Others felt that it might have been a deliberate choice, given that his partner is Japanese and that it reflected his lack of consideration for the historical sensitivity between the two cultures.
