A controversial idol-turned-actress has come forward with strong accusations, claiming that her older sister embezzled several hundred million won and committed abuses against their mother, announcing that she will take legal action.
On September 4th, former AOA member Kwon Mina posted a lengthy message on her social media, saying, “What is family? In the end, only my mother remains as my true family,” sparking widespread attention.
She mentioned her late father and older sister, opening with, “They committed such evil acts that it’s hard to call them family.” She especially accused her older sister of embezzling and scamming a total of over ₩700 million KRW (about $516,000 USD) to ₩800 million KRW (about $590,000 USD), including money from herself, their mother, and their mother’s acquaintances.
Kwon Mina explained, “I knew about the embezzlement long ago. If she had just used some money when she was struggling and honestly apologized or acknowledged it, that would have been enough. But about two years ago, I realized the gravity of the situation after discovering that all my mother’s assets, my bank account, and money I had given to my mother had disappeared.”
She went on to say, “Despite paying for my mother’s breast cancer treatment and cosmetic surgery afterward all out of my own pocket, my sister said things like ‘Mom should have gotten breast cancer,’ and ‘Let’s put her in a nursing home’ to our mother. She even spread false information about our mother to her boyfriend,” causing shock.
She added that her sister also forced her to sign a purchase agreement for a vehicle costing over ₩100 million KRW (about $73,700 USD) through another scam.
Kwon Mina also touched on past childhood wounds. She recalled, “My sister went to a liberal arts high school and then Korea University, but I took a different path, working part-time jobs since middle school. Our father didn’t pay child support, so I had to take on the role of the head of the household, working to support us. Yet my sister was ashamed of me and told me not to brag that I was her sibling,” recalling the cruel memories.
Finally, Kwon Mina demanded a sincere apology and acknowledgment from her sister. She warned, “Let’s resolve this by having her admit her wrongdoing and apologize now. But if she has no intention of doing so, I will go all the way legally, exposing the truth so she won’t be able to hold her head up, charging her with fraud, forgery of private documents, embezzlement, and threats.”
Kwon Mina debuted with the girl group AOA in 2012 and left the team in 2019, subsequently claiming she was bullied by other members, which drew public sympathy. However, she has since been embroiled in controversies including allegations of power abuse as a nurse, accusations of urging a breakup during a transfer, and apologizing and explaining through live social media broadcasts. She has previously revealed financial conflicts and tax issues involving her older sister.
