Korea’s “National MC” Yoo Jae Suk recounted his experience with quitting smoking and warned about the dangers of addiction.
On September 9th, the tvN show You Quiz on the Block featured hepatobiliary pancreatic surgeon Lee Joon Seo, who has spent nine years overcoming alcohol addiction. Lee shared his experience with alcohol addiction and the efforts he made to quit drinking.
Listening to Lee Joon Seo’s process of overcoming alcohol addiction, Yoo Jae Suk brought up his own experience quitting smoking. He said, “I used to smoke, but it’s been 20 years since I quit. I made a lot of effort during the quitting process. I tried saying, ‘I’ll smoke five cigarettes a day,’ but that didn’t work. It was difficult.”
He added, “You have to quit smoking all at once. While alcohol might be somewhat different, gradually reducing it is not easy.”
He also revealed that the craving for cigarettes continued for a while even after quitting. “Right after quitting, when I saw others smoking, I would think about it. But after five or ten years, I didn’t even think about it. In fact, I started to dislike the smell. I guess it might be similar with alcohol,” he said.
On the show, Yoo Jae Suk also revealed the surprising reason he started smoking in the first place.
