aespa’s Giselle Sparks Outrage With Her Support For Alleged Abuser
As the criticism has continued, a specific photo post has caught attention for its content.
In a post made back in April with the caption “get to know me,” Giselle mixed photos of herself and various pop culture imagery.
Two of the images have been found to be from the French film Léon: The Professional, which tells the story of a 12-year-old girl being taken in by a hitman after her family was murdered. The film has been viewed as controversial due to the “uncomfortable” relationship between the two central characters and its scenes, which include the 12-year-old dressing up and impersonating famous sex symbols.
The film’s director Luc Besson, began dating a 15-year-old child star known as Maïwenn when he was 31. Maïwenn has since stated the film was partially inspired by the “relationship” between the two, as Besson first met Maïwenn when she was 12.
Another of Giselle’s posts have also been discovered to contain a screenshot from a series called Elfen Lied, an “edgy” series known for its gratuitous violence in addition to child abuse and nudity.
Netizens have discussed these aspects of the film in relation to Giselle posting photos from it, sparking backlash.
