The number of signatories to a National Assembly public petition calling for a full investigation into the “supporting actor group sexual assault case” that occurred over 20 years ago has finally surpassed 50,000. As a result, the petition has been forwarded to the relevant standing committee of the National Assembly (the Public Administration and Security Committee) for review.

On January 13, 2026, the National Assembly’s electronic petition platform announced that the petition titled “Petition Requesting a Parliamentary Hearing and Special Prosecutor for the Supporting Actor Group Sexual Assault Case” had met the requirements for referral and was officially submitted to the Public Administration and Security Committee.

Under the National Assembly’s public petition system, if a petition gains more than 50,000 public endorsements, it is forwarded to the relevant standing committee. The committee then reviews whether the matter should be addressed in a plenary session and decides whether to adopt or dismiss the petition. This was achieved in less than two weeks.

The supporting actress and her sister.

The petitioner, identified as A, explained the tragic story.

“The victim, who worked as a supporting actor, was sexually assaulted and molested by 12 men, including a supporting casting team leader, in 2004. Despite this, the case never received a proper investigation due to the absence of effective law enforcement. A thorough investigation is also needed into the circumstances that forced the victim to withdraw her complaint. We are therefore requesting a parliamentary hearing and the appointment of a special prosecutor.”

From August to November 2004, a Korean female graduate student identified as B, who was working part-time as a supporting actor, was subjected to group sexual assault and sexual harassment by 12 men affiliated with the filming set.

In December of that year, B filed a criminal complaint with the police, but the accused men denied the allegations. During the investigation, police reportedly subjected B to secondary victimization by making remarks such as asking her to “draw the shape of the perpetrators’ genitals.”

Police even arranged situations in which B was forced to directly confront the accused men during questioning. After receiving threats from them, B withdrew her complaint in 2006. In 2009, B passed on by suicide. Her younger sister, who had introduced her to the supporting actor job and suffered from severe guilt, later also took her own life.

Their father, who had pre-existing health conditions, died from a cerebral hemorrhage after being traumatized by the consecutive deaths of his daughters. Their mother, left alone, filed a civil lawsuit against the 12 men in 2014, but lost the case on the grounds that the three-year statute of limitations under civil law had already expired.

The mother continued to raise the issue through one-person protests and other means. Although the accused men filed a defamation lawsuit against her for allegedly spreading false information, the court found her not guilty. Since then, the mother has been revealing the identities and current whereabouts of the men through a YouTube channel.
