Go Young Wook, a celebrity-turned-sex offender on minors, has attracted attention by addressing suspicions related to Girls’ Generation (also known as SNSD) member Taeyeon and even mentioning his own past relationships during the explanation.
On October 28th, Go Young Wook posted a lengthy message on his personal social media account saying, “I try to live quietly by taking care of my cats’ snacks, but everywhere is a minefield.” He directly addressed stories about past variety show incidents circulating online recently.
Recently, a story about Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon from a past variety show was revisited on online communities and social media. At the time, Taeyeon talked about a senior who sent her a text saying he would buy her ice cream but then called rudely while drunk. Although Taeyeon did not reveal the person’s real name, online speculation identified the senior as Go Young Wook.
In response, Go Young Wook denied the allegations and explained the situation when he actually met Taeyeon. He recalled the period when he was a regular cast member on Mnet‘s Beatles Code along with Yoon Jong Shin and Yoo Se Yoon, and said, “To get straight to the point, I have met junior Taeyeon and had a brief conversation only once.”
He explained that Taeyeon’s late arrival delayed the filming, which annoyed him somewhat, but when she entered the studio and recognized him, a single phrase she said eased his discomfort.
He said, “That day, Taeyeon came late, so the recording was delayed, and I was a bit annoyed. But she looked at me as she entered the studio and said, ‘I’m a fan, senior.’ Those words softened my irritation, and I just awkwardly greeted her.”
He expressed displeasure, saying, “No matter what happened to me now, it’s unfair to put innocent people on the chopping block and make assumptions without basis.”
Go Young Wook also clarified situations when female juniors mentioned stories related to him on variety shows, arguing that those broadcasted stories were misunderstood compared to the real situations.
He said, “It was common for variety show writers to encourage us to exaggerate for entertainment during pre-interviews. In reality, I maintained a gentle and good senior-junior relationship with those juniors. Some juniors who talked about me on the show even contacted me first and met in good spirits off-camera.”
He emphasized that he had never contacted female juniors rudely, stating, “I have never called female juniors unilaterally like a thug, especially late at night. Surprisingly, I was shy in waiting rooms and greeted politely, and jokingly suggested mutual follows on Twitter during recordings.” He pointed out differences between the incidents mentioned on shows and his actual memories.
In the process, Go Young Wook even mentioned his past popularity. He emphasized that during his activities with Roo’ra in the 1990s, the group was extremely popular, and he was a popular member. He also revealed dating experiences with top actresses of the era.
He said, “I don’t want to talk about the past, but as everyone knows, Roo’ra in the ‘90s was the most popular group of the time, and among them, I was a popular member. I wasn’t so bad-looking. It may sound annoying, but I was always popular with women. There were many dating rumors back then, and I dated some of the country’s top actresses who liked me too.”
He questioned, “Why would I call junior Taeyeon late at night to do such a thing?” repeatedly emphasizing that the suspicions were false. In explaining his brief encounter with Taeyeon, he mentioned his popularity and dating experiences during his entertainment career.
Go Young Wook strongly opposed online posts identifying him as the person Taeyeon had mentioned. He asked, “For what purpose do they take old variety show clips and falsely claim that I am the person Taeyeon mentioned and shamelessly post these lies to slander me? Do they think I’m a punching bag and it’s okay to post false information wildly?”
He added, “Those who echo such claims are pathetic. What are they going to do with my precious morning time? They live so miserably. Tsk tsk,” revealing his displeasure.
Go Young Wook was sentenced to two years and six months in prison in 2013 for sexually assaulting a minor and served his sentence. Even after being released, he tried to return to the entertainment industry but has not been able to continue activities.
Recently, Go Young Wook has been speaking out on entertainment issues through his account by criticizing various celebrities one after another. In the past, he has also been at the center of controversies by publicly criticizing the actions of famous people.
