    Premiere Watch: Positively Yours

    by stroopwafel

    Time slot: Saturday & Sunday
    Broadcaster: Channel A
    Genre: Family, rom-com
    Episode count: 12
    Global streamer: Viki

Reasons to watch: Channel A is putting the “un” in unconventional K-drama romances with their new series, Positively Yours. Oh Yoon-seo and Choi Jin-hyuk will play our leads, with Hong Jong-hyun and Dasom taking on supporting roles.

Our main duo have very modern sensibilities and similar goals in life. They are both very anti-marriage (due to their personal backgrounds) and extremely career-driven. So when they cross paths and have a steamy night together, it’s easy to assume that will be the sum of their dalliance. Until Oh Yeon-seo realizes she’s pregnant.

A twist of fate reunites her with Choi Jin-hyuk, and when she tells her handsome stranger/father of her unborn child about the baby, he shocks her by proposing that they marry. What sounds like a bonkers suggestion starts to feel more like a good idea as they both realize that their initial attraction is quickly developing into something much deeper.

The drama’s storyline is basically the inverse of the “first comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby” nursery rhyme, so I expect the show to take a more novel approach to dating and marriage. Expect lots of romance, but the familiar beats we’ve come to expect from dramas will likely be playing at a different tempo than we’d normally see.
