BLACKPINK’s Songwriter Makes Severe Accusations Against Label Believed To Be YG Entertainment

American singer-songwriter Bekuh Boom, who has co-written nearly all of BLACKPINK‘s biggest hits, including “Boombayah,” “Whistle,” “DDU-DU DDU-DU,” “Kill This Love,” and “Pretty Savage,” has levied some serious accusations against a record label which many believe to be YG Entertainment.

Recently, Bekuh Boom posted a video on social media recounting the past few years of her career, without naming anyone. She started by saying that when she was 18, she was asked to “fly across the world” to work with a record label, which then told her not to put out her own music under the pretense of wanting to sign her.

After she agreed to the terms, the label had her writing songs for its artists, all of which achieved massive success. So, the label then asked her to teach trainees how to sing and rap like her. Bekuh mentioned that at the time, she had no idea the group she was helping would become “one of the biggest girl groups in the world.”

Bekuh continued, adding that when the group debuted, the initial record deal offered to her was pulled. However, the label kept making new offers to her every time she was approached to write a new song for the girl group, without ever acting on them.

When Bekuh turned 23, she finally got the record deal after five years of waiting. However, she also found out at the same time that she was pregnant. She decided to disclose it to the label and was told that she could only get the deal if she got an abortion. Bekuh claimed that she was told her life and career were over if she decided to have the baby, but she didn’t agree to get the abortion.

So, the singer left the label and returned home. The company, however, tracked her down and made her pay them for her flight ticket. For the next two years, she was ignored by everyone at the label until she got a call from them again, informing her that some of her raps had been used in a new song. “That song comes out, and it’s bigger than ever,” Bekuh added, claiming that it catapulted the girl group to global stardom.

Bekuh started writing for the girl group again, entirely on her own, and produced the group’s highest-selling tracks despite not receiving any support from the label. Her record deal was also sidelined yet again.

The singer then explained that her bitter experience had turned her into an “anti-industry” artist, prompting her decision to restart her career from scratch and self-fund her releases.

Though Bekuh Boom didn’t specify any names in the video, given her 11-year career as a songwriter under YG Entertainment, netizens were quick to connect the dots.

No way YG and Teddy ripped off Bekah Boom who has basically written all of Blackpink’s hits. That company is so nasty and no one os talking about it pic.twitter.com/h3iNSZODwJ

The video has sparked scathing reactions online, leaving netizens horrified that the label allegedly tried to pressure Bekuh into getting an abortion. Though some pointed out that the Bekuh herself has a bad reputation for her problematic lyrics and politics, many countered it, arguing that the issue went beyond the individual.

i would like to highlight the fact that YG ent asked her to get an abortion https://t.co/cm17xm14RU

I don’t know anything about this lady but, trying to leverage her career and make her choose between a deal and her unborn child is INSANELY disgusting. https://t.co/ZKXLdHVMhQ
