On the 19th, a video featuring IVE‘s Rei was released on the YouTube channel “MMTG.”
That day, Rei, the Japanese member of the girl group IVE, appeared as a guest and went on a day date with MC Jae Jae.
Rei who had previously popularized the “gyaru V” pose, caught attention by appearing wearing the recently trending Japanese “gyaru makeup” and fashion.
Jae Jae asked, “You kept sliding into my DMs, what’s going on?” and Rei started off with gyaru flirting by saying, “I want to go on a date with you today.”
Rei said, “I was really a fan of T-ara,” agreeing that T-ara’s outfits during their “Bo Peep Bo Peep” promotions embodied the gyaru style perfectly. She added humorously, “I think I’ve been dreaming about being gyaru since then.”
Showing enthusiasm, Rei gave an impromptu makeover to transform Jae Jae into a gyaru. Throughout the makeup session, she kept saying, “Ah, so pretty,” and then taught him the so-called “gyaru attitude,” leaving Jae Jae completely overwhelmed.
Rei even personally picked out clothes for Jae Jae’s gyaru look, then suddenly doubted herself, saying, “I don’t know if I’m doing this right,” which made Jae Jae burst out laughing. After finishing with a “gyaru selfie,” Jae Jae said, “I’ve really fallen into gyaru,” showing how immersed she was in the gyaru culture.
That day, Rei shared some insights about Japanese dating culture, saying, “There’s no word for ‘some’ (fling) in Japan,” “Many people start dating after the third meeting,” “Calling someone by their name without ‘-chan’ is a sign of deeper intimacy,” and “When dating, you usually contact each other once a day. I think I’ve changed since coming to Korea. I used to reply after finishing all my tasks and checking messages.”
In particular, she explained that suddenly speaking formally with “The moon is beautiful” is a way of expressing interest in dating, which made Jae Jae laugh, saying, “What kind of dating signal is that? I don’t get it.”
