AI Slop Or Malicious? M Countdown’s “Mega Concert” Promo Material Raises Serious Questions

“…what are they even doing at work?”

A promotional post for M Countdown’s upcoming “Mega Concert” has sparked debate online after netizens noticed that the artists’ faces appeared strangely distorted.

On May 30, 2026 (KST), a post titled “Mega Concert Twitter Under Fire Because The Singers’ Faces Look Weird” gained attention on the Korean online community theqoo. The post included screenshots from Mega MGC Coffee’s official Twitter account, as well as a fan’s comparison post pointing out the issue.

According to the original poster, it was not just the captured images that looked strange.

    메가콘 이거 사진 왜이럼 ?
누가봐도 일부러 얼굴 이상하게 변형 시킨 사진인데 검수 제대로 안함? https://t.co/HyoRJpmpoD pic.twitter.com/poZMONDIDa

What’s with the Mega Con promo photos? The idol faces are obviously distorted with malintent. Are they really not reviewing/confirming their material?

    — Netizen

The poster then questioned whether the distortion was intentional or an editing error.

Even aside from the screenshots, all of the performers’ faces in the poster are strangely blurred and distorted… Was it on purpose? Or some sort of an editing error?

    — Netizen

The post quickly drew attention, with many netizens speculating that artificial intelligence may have been used in the poster’s production. Some pointed out that AI image tools can alter facial features even when users only ask them to adjust the background, layout, or other parts of an image. Several others urged the companies involved to investigate how the poster was made and why it was approved for upload.

    • If you run it through AI, it turns out like that LOL. Are they seriously too lazy to even insert the actual photos, so they used AI? Completely pathetic.
    • SEVENTEEN had something like this happen a long time ago too.
    • If they’re using AI even for something like this, then what are they even doing at work? This isn’t a difficult task, so why are they using it for this too? Seriously…
    • What is this…
    • It feels way too malicious, but AI is the perfect shield now LOL.
    • AI slop.
    • The AI excuse is funny too. Are they making posters on a phone? LOL. If you look at it on a monitor, you can clearly see the faces are ruined. It was like that with SEVENTEEN too, and it feels malicious.
    • When I use AI and ask it to change only the background in my selfie, not my face, it still changes my face like that.
    • I don’t think it’s AI, though.
    • I think it probably is AI… I recently asked it to edit only the clothes in my photo, but it subtly changed my face too. If they revised it multiple times, I think this kind of result is possible.
    • I think it’s AI. It doesn’t only change what you ask it to change, it touches the face too. And intentionally blurring every single singer’s face is more unrealistic.
    • LOL, instead of saying whether it’s AI or not, just grill the entire department in charge and find out what happened. Then the truth will come out.

As of now, neither M Countdown nor Mega MGC Coffee appears to have issued a detailed explanation regarding the distorted poster. Still, the discussion has continued to spread as fans question whether the issue was caused by AI editing, careless production, or something more intentional—amid growing frustration among K-Pop fans over the use of AI in official promotional materials, especially when it involves artists’ appearances.
