Actor and ASTRO member Cha Eunwoo received Catholic baptism during his military service.
According to News1 on July 1st, Cha Eunwoo was baptized last month during his military service. Serving as a corporal in the army band, Cha Eunwoo attended a ceremony held on base as part of religious activities and was baptized.
It is noteworthy that Cha Eunwoo, who had never officially disclosed any religious affiliation before, has taken his first step as a formal Catholic during his military service.
Especially after the tax-related controversy earlier this year, there is speculation that he found greater emotional comfort through religion.
Earlier, in January, Cha Eunwoo was caught up in allegations of massive tax evasion concerning income distribution through a one-person agency established by his mother. The National Tax Service viewed the company as a shell company operated without actual services and launched a stringent investigation; it is reported that they notified him of a large income tax surcharge.
After being notified of the additional income tax, Cha Eunwoo completed all payments of about ₩13.0 billion KRW (about $8.40 million USD) in April, concluding the tax process. Since then, he has quietly focused on his military duties, receiving a response from the military authorities confirming that certain complaints about inappropriate assignments were actually proper duty assignments.
Cha Eunwoo enlisted as an active-duty soldier in July last year and is scheduled to be discharged in January 2027.
