CJ Group has requested a police investigation into a case involving the leakage of employee personal information.
According to Yonhap News Agency, on the 20th, CJ Group announced that it had filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on the 19th, accusing violators of breaching the Personal Information Protection Act in connection with the leakage of employee personal data through a Telegram channel.
However, since the scale of the leak involved fewer than 1,000 people and did not include unique identification information such as resident registration numbers or sensitive data, it was determined that the case does not fall under the reporting requirements for the Personal Information Protection Commission.
A CJ Group official stated, “We plan to fully cooperate with the police investigation,” adding, “We have individually informed the affected employees and are taking necessary measures to prevent secondary damage.”
Earlier, on the 18th, it was confirmed that a Telegram channel had posted the mobile phone numbers, job titles, internal phone numbers, and photos of over 330 female CJ Group employees, prompting the company to launch a fact-finding investigation. The channel was established in 2023 and reportedly has about 2,800 participants.
Among the leaked information were details accessible through the company’s internal intranet, leading the company to believe the leak was more likely caused by an insider rather than external hacking.
