Reasons to watch: Romance is in the air at ENA, and their latest drama, Dream to You is promising love and humor with Hwang In-yub and Hyeri.
We first meet our protagonists as teenagers attending the same high school. Even as a teen, Hyeri knew she wanted to become a movie director, and she was constantly writing scripts and making short films. Hwang was a reserved bookworm, but he was drawn to Hyeri’s passion and in short order, they became friends, then sweethearts. But like many young love stories, theirs had an unhappy ending, with Hwang abruptly leaving Hyeri over a vague explanation about going abroad for college.
In the present day, Hyeri has an unfulfilling career in television, and the intervening years have disillusioned her. Hwang, on the other hand, has the career that Hyeri once dreamed about–he’s become a widely-acclaimed filmmaker. So when he suddenly seeks her out with a proposal to make a film together, it’s a huge shock to Hyeri. It’s a peace offering, though Hyeri is both suspicious and initially uninterested. But even after all those years apart, he knows just which buttons to push, and she eventually agrees to work with him. As they launch their professional relationship, the pair grapple with their unresolved hurt and complicated feelings, and they start to realize that their reunion could mean a new start for their romantic relationship.
If you like second chances and watching love as it evolves through the years, this has the potential to offer us two different kinds of romance, as it will follow our protagonists as high school sweethearts and as fully-formed adults with careers. I like both of our leads, so if the romance turns out to be a little on the one-dimensional side, I’ll still be happy to watch Hwang In-yub and Hyeri be cute with each other and fall in love.
