A Korean YouTuber has faced criticism after releasing controversial footage on his channel, and subscriber have started to leave.
As of August 24th, famous paraplegic YouTuber Park We’s YouTube channel WERACLE has about 991,000 subscribers. He originally had one million subscribers, but the recent controversy caused his subscriber count to drop below 1 million.
Previously, Park We uploaded CCTV footage on his channel showing himself being knocked off balance after tripping over the foot of a public service worker while getting off the KTX train.
He said, “The public service worker did not intend to do it, but I was upset just to see their foot on the ramp.” He added, “Although that person politely apologized to me, I couldn’t accept it at that moment.”
As for why he released the CCTV footage, he explained, “This was to highlight the need for improvements in an environment that is still unsafe.”
However, backlash followed the release of the video. Despite the worker politely apologizing on site, many criticized Park We, a famous YouTuber with one million subscribers, for publicly sharing the footage and openly criticizing the public service worker, calling it excessive.
In response, Park We posted a brief apology saying, “I did not consider the position of the worker who did their best to help me at the scene and apologized politely,” and deleted the controversial post.
Despite Park We’s apology, subscribers have turned away and unsubscribed. Some netizens even started leaving malicious comments on the Instagram account of his wife, former Secret member Song Jieun.
