I.O.I Gears Up for a 10th Anniversary Comeback

A decade after their explosive debut, I.O.I is officially returning to the spotlight.

On February 23rd, Swing Entertainment confirmed that the group will make a comeback in May and is currently preparing a brand-new album. The agency will oversee management and promotions for this special 10th-anniversary project, marking the group’s first reunion in nearly 9 years, since their disbandment in 2017.

This long-awaited reunion carries deep meaning for fans who have hoped to see the members share the stage again. Over the years, the members have openly expressed their desire to reunite, and after extensive discussions, the project has finally come to life. Im Nayoung, Chungha, Kim Sejeong, Jung Chaeyeon, Kim So Hye, Yoo Yeonjung, Choi Yoojung, Kim Doyeon and Jeon Somi have confirmed participation in the comeback. However, Kang Mina and Zhou Jieqiong will sit out this promotion due to scheduling conflicts, with the group returning as a nine-member team.

Over the past decade, the members have flourished individually as solo artists, actors, and entertainers. Now, as they regroup under the I.O.I name, anticipation is building around the fresh synergy they will create—blending their matured artistry and diverse experiences into an upgraded team dynamic.

Formed through a nationwide vote on Produce 101 in 2016, I.O.I debuted in May that same year and quickly became a sensation. Starting with “Dream Girls,” they delivered consecutive hits including “Whatta Man,” “Very Very Very,” and “Downpour,” dominating music charts and racking up wins on music shows. Their meteoric rise established them as one of the era’s defining girl groups.

Their impact extended to major award shows, where they swept Rookie of the Year honors at the Mnet Asian Music Awards, Golden Disc Awards, and Seoul Music Awards. Beyond music, their variety show appearances strengthened their image as the beloved “nation’s girl group.” They concluded official activities with a farewell concert in January 2017.

Following the release of the new album, I.O.I plans to reconnect with fans through a concert in Seoul, followed by an Asia tour. The upcoming performances are expected to be a powerful culmination of their anniversary celebrations—an emotional reunion designed to reward the loyalty of fans who have waited nearly a decade.

More details regarding the comeback schedule and album will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
