In the K-Pop industry, several idols have come out as members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
However, with a taboo still surrounding members of the community, it is not entirely possible for all idols who fall outside the norms to be open about their identities.
Gay Idol In Active K-Pop Group Speaks On Other Queer Idols, Hypocrisy, And More
Recently, a K-Pop journalist came under fire for her post about a gay K-Pop idol.
Indian TV personality Sakshma Srivastav, who has interviewed multiple K-Pop groups in the past, shared a post on Instagram with the caption “Hope this doesn’t break your heart.” In the video, Srivastav is shown on a flight with the text “Girls be going crazy for that hot idol when I secretly know he’s gay.“
Though she did not name anyone in particular, the post quickly sparked discourse online.
Many saw it as inappropriate for her to out someone for the sake of a video and that she seemed to insinuate that the knowledge of an idol being gay would make them less attractive.
