On the January 30 broadcast of the SBS variety show Grumpty Secretary, the actress shared stories from her 24-year-long career in the entertainment industry.
Park looked back on her early years in the industry as a child actress, recalling how she would often cry in secret after being scolded on set.
I got scolded a lot. I cried secretly. I’d go behind and cry, wipe my tears secretly, and come back out. I even cried by the Han River.

The actress’s mother, who also appeared on the broadcast, spoke about a specific scene from the 2003 K-Drama Stairway to Heaven, in which Park was slapped. “When I saw the script, I knew there was a scene where she gets slapped,” Park’s mother mentioned, adding, “After seeing her actually get hit, I stopped watching ‘Stairway to Heaven’ right then and there. I still don’t watch it now.”
Park, who was just 13 years old at that time, was reportedly slapped 30 times while filming the scene. Yet, she never mentioned it at home. Her mother revealed, “It wasn’t until much later that her managers told me about what happened in that situation. It was incredibly heartbreaking.”
Park’s mother also recalled the director telling her how “brutal” the shoot was for her as a child. Despite being scolded for her mistakes, Park Shin Hye never cried in front of others. Instead, she would go into the bathroom, cry it out, and come back on set.
When Lee Seo Jin remarked that Park Shin Hye shouldn’t have worked with that director, her mother defused the tension by saying that Park was able to earn her place in the industry thanks to those people who worked with her when she was younger.
Meanwhile, Park Shin Hye recently opened up about her father’s heartbreaking health condition, shedding tears on camera.
