A resurfaced interview of KATSEYE‘s Manon is sparking debate online, with fans divided over remarks she made about her relationship with work.
In the clip, the Swiss-born member opened up about her creative journey, explaining that she always knew she wanted to pursue a creative path.
“I always knew from a very young age I wanted to be a creative. I never saw myself doing a 9 to 5.
So songwriting and teaching myself the piano and making songs on my ukulele was always my form of a late at night bedroom activity, just for fun, little outlet. I never really thought that singing would actually turn into my job because growing up in Switzerland, that was just not really what would happen for people.
It was unrealistic to have a career path like that so I’m just insanely happy that it worked out.”

Despite the sentiment being framed in terms of gratitude, the “9 to 5” comment quickly became the focal point of criticism on X (formerly Twitter).
“i never saw myself doing a 9 to 5” oh we know you’re lazy it’s ok https://t.co/iSg7cGyOan

Many fans took issue with what they interpreted as a dismissive attitude toward hard work, with some drawing comparisons to KATSEYE’s grueling rehearsal schedules.
This explains why she was hell-bent on skipping KATSEYE’s 9–12 hour rehearsals. Even Beyoncé rehearses longer, so what makes people think this talentless girl is the next supreme? She’s giving Selena Gomez, but without the work ethic or talent https://t.co/hRSIePATgh

Others pointed to Manon’s past absences from KATSEYE schedules, using her words to argue it exposed a “pattern.”
Your lazy a** could never do a 9 to 5

Not everyone piled on. Some fans rushed to defend her, arguing the comments were taken out of context and that she was simply describing her background, not her work ethic as an idol.
What are your thoughts? Do Manon’s words reveal a poor work ethic, or is she simply someone who turned a childhood dream into reality? Let us know what you think in the comments section of our social media post!
