TVING confirms the cast for its upcoming action fantasy High School Queen (working title). Adapted from the webtoon of the same name (written by critie, illustrated by Nehae), Kim Se-jung (Moon River) takes on the titular role of a Joseon queen transmigrated into the body of a present-day high school student who uses her past skills to deliver justice and teach the bullies a lesson.
Kim Chung-ha (Kim Se-jung) is Joseon’s greatest warrior and indomitable queen. However, she loses her life and wakes up 400 years in the future in the body of Kim Da-jin, the victim of school bullying. As her instincts as queen kick in, Chung-ha fights back against the bullies who control the school, and along the way, experiences the dreams and love she could not accomplish in her previous life.
Opposite our queen, Bae Hyun-sung (Shin’s Project) plays both her faithful guard Sung Won-joo as well as the school’s kendo ace Sung Shi-woo. While he once harbored a deep (and most likely forbidden) love for Chung-ha, will those feelings translate to the present as she reappears before him as Da-jin?
Last but not least, Jo Han-gyeol (Undercover Miss Hong) completes this love triangle as Joseon’s authoritarian king Lee Nyung and the new mysterious transfer student Lee Do-yoon. Behind his bright smile hides a secret, and for Chung-ha and Shi-woo, Do-yoon’s presence complicates things in unpredictable ways.
Set within two timelines, the show plans to switch between the past and present as it follows the intertwined lives of its leads. Filming for the adaptation begins this month which means the show will most likely hit our screen sometime next year in 2027. TVING’s High School Queen is directed by PD Yoon Sung-shik (The Haunted Palace) and written by Lee Jung-tae.
