Mad for Each Other Korean Drama Review

Mad for Each Other is about a detective (Jung Woo) with anger issues whose life takes a crazy turn when he meets a woman (Oh Yeon Seo) trapped in her own delusions and compulsions.

Jung Woo plays Noh Hwi Oh. He is a detective placed on leave after an incident which leaves him with severe anger issues. While he’s trying his best to work on them, things get a lot more challenging when he meets a woman who constantly makes him angry.

Oh Yeon Seo is Lee Min Gyeong. After experiencing trauma, she has isolated herself as she struggles with delusions and paranoia. These things ramp up even more after she starts encountering a very angry Hwi Oh.

Mad for Each Other was a fun and breezy watch with it’s 13 short episodes. It’s a mostly humorous drama that really plays up a lot of our main couples’ quirks, and they are the highlight of the series for sure.

The show does tackle several mental health issues including PTSD, OCD, and anger issues. While the issues are definitely played for comedy, it also takes time to explore the more serious repercussions of these illnesses. This adds a more serious side to the drama where we really see the struggles that Hwi Oh and Min Gyeong have to deal with. I thought it was handled fairly well.

Hwi Oh and Min Gyeong are certainly an interesting couple. They definitely start out hating each other but slowly come to understand one another and develop a relationship. It was nice seeing how they tried to support each other through their difficulties.

But even with the best of intentions, their issues definitely bring up conflict between them, and they both treat each other badly at times. They have a tumultuous relationship, but it’s filled with a lot of tender moments too. They really help each other grow, and that was nice to see.

There’s also a case to solve running in the background to pad up the story a bit. It was okay, but nothing too riveting. Then we have a little community that Hwi Oh and Min Gyeong are part of that adds both humor and conflict.

All in all, Mad for Each Other was a solid watch. The pacing was good as it flipped between the comedy and the more serious side of the show. It did well at tackling the issues it highlighted in a more light-hearted fashion. It was a fun drama all around.

    My Rating: 7.5/10
