My Royal Nemesis Im Ji-yeon travels from Joseon to modern day
by tccolb
Decreed My Royal Nemesis in SBS’s newest poster and trailer, the fantasy rom-com sentences Joseon baddie Im Ji-yeon (Nice to Not Meet You) to a three-century timeslip where she’s misfortuned to meet our modern day capitalist baddie Heo Nam-joon (A Hundred Memories).
The video teaser begins in 18th century Joseon, when the crafty concubine Kang Dan-shim (Im Ji-yeon) meets her downfall and she’s executed via poison by the royal court. Fast-forward to 21st century South Korea and though Dan-shim is technically still at the palace, it’s not exactly the same as before. Feeling forlorn in a strange land, our lost-in-time villainess wonders, ‟Is this my punishment from the heavens? Perhaps it would be better to die than this?”
We then cue the record scratch of course because the tenacious Dan-shim is no damsel in distress and even the worst of places is better than the afterlife. And now in the body of struggling actor Shin Seo-ri, the fish-out-of-water Dan-shim is amusingly gung-ho about surviving. This somehow brings her to the entitled chaebol Cha Se-gye (Heo Nam-joon) and our not-quite-heroine decides that he’ll have to do, declaring that she’ll make good use of him as her shield in this new world.
Also starring Jang Seung-jo (As You Stood By), Kim Min-seok (Typhoon Family), Lee Se-hee (The Dream Life of Mr. Kim), and Chae Seo-ahn (Perfect Crown), SBS’s My Royal Nemesis is slated to premiere on May 8 next month.
Directed PD Han Tae-sub (Cheer Up, Stove League) with Kang Hyun-joo (Lost in Starlight) writing, the series will be broadcasting on weekends following Phantom Lawyer.
