Actor Hwang Jung Min‘s scandal involving an alleged affair with a fan has taken an unexpected turn after the woman was penalized in court.

According to reports on September 8, KST, the “fan” involved in the controversy, a woman in her 40s, was fined ₩6.00 million KRW (about $4,460 USD) for violating the Act on Punishment of Crime of Stalking. The Uijeungbu District Court also ordered the defendant to complete a 40-hour anti-stalking program.
In July of this year, the woman claimed that Hwang had been having an affair with him since 2024 and posted alleged pictures, messages, and phone call recordings as evidence. As the controversy blew up, the actor’s agency claimed that the woman was a stalker who already had an active restraining order. The case was then brought to court after Hwang filed a complaint against her in August.

The court noted that the woman had contacted Hwang through text messages so frequently that it was enough to cause him anxiety and fear. She was also aware that Hwang didn’t want her to continue contacting him, and kept doing it regardless. The court also noted the lack of remorse on her part, but also took into account that she had no prior criminal record while deciding the sentence.
On August 11, during a formal hearing, prosecutors sought a ₩10.0 million KRW (about $7,430 USD) fine for the woman. On that day, the woman admitted that she had sent Hwang messages suggesting that she might take her own life, a suicide note, and a photo of a dead cat. However, she denied the charges and said she only wanted to communicate how she was feeling before ending their relationship.
On Tuesday, September 8, the woman didn’t attend the hearing, with only her attorney present in court.
