Top Idol Quickly Cuts Ties With Album Producer After Criminal Allegations Surface

Former TVXQ member Kim Junsu’s agency has officially cut ties with an album producer after criminal allegations involving the producer surfaced in Korean media.

On June 26, 2026 (KST), Kim Junsu’s agency, Palm Tree Island, released a statement addressing reports involving an outsourced producer who participated in the singer and musical actor’s fifth full-length album.

According to Star News, the agency emphasized that the criminal case reported was a personal matter unrelated to the company or Kim Junsu. The agency further explained that it first learned of the matter in May through a certified letter. After checking the facts, the company confirmed that the individual was not an employee of Palm Tree Island but an outsourced producer who had participated in the album’s production.

As a result, we immediately ended all collaboration with the individual, and he is currently not involved in any of our company’s work whatsoever.

The issue began after Cookie News first reported earlier that K-Pop lyricist Hwang Yu Bin, CEO of XYNC, claimed she had her phone stolen during a song camp hosted by Producer A, who worked on Kim Junsu’s fifth full-length album. Hwang reportedly alleged that tens of millions of KRW in cryptocurrency were stolen afterward and that A has since been forwarded to the prosecution on fraud and theft charges.

Hwang also reportedly questioned Palm Tree Island’s claim that the company was unrelated to A, as the producer was credited on all tracks of Kim Junsu’s fifth full-length album, Gravity. She requested at least an expression of regret and an explanation of the facts from the agency.

Palm Tree Island pushed back against the implication that the company or Kim Junsu was connected to the criminal case. The agency stressed that A was an outsourced producer, not an internal employee, and that Palm Tree Island had not planned, operated, recruited for, or otherwise participated in the song camp mentioned in the report.

The agency also clarified that while it had reviewed lyric drafts sent through a publishing company during the production of some tracks on Kim Junsu’s fifth album, those lyrics were ultimately not used.

Hello, this is Palm Tree Island.

As some reports have mentioned matters related to our company and our artist, we would like to clearly state the facts.

The criminal case mentioned in the report is a personal matter that has absolutely nothing to do with our company’s work, and neither our company nor our artist, Kim Junsu, has any connection to it.

Our company first became aware of the matter through a certified letter in May. After confirming the facts, we found that the individual was not an employee of our company but an outsourced producer who participated in album production. Accordingly, we immediately ended all collaboration, and the individual is currently not involved in any of our company’s work whatsoever.

In addition, our company did not participate in or become involved in any part of the lyric song camp mentioned in the report, including its planning, operation, recruitment, or proceedings.

During the production of some tracks on Kim Junsu’s fifth full-length album last year, our company reviewed work delivered through a publishing company, as per the usual album production process. At the time, we prepared for recording based on the lyric draft, but ultimately did not use that draft and proceeded with recording using new lyrics.

From the time of that work last year until we received the certified letter in May, our company had never received any explanation or complaint related to this matter.

During the subsequent fact-checking process, we confirmed that the head of the lyric publishing company at the time had conveyed to A that the lyric work should not be used. We were also completely unaware until then that the work was connected to the song camp mentioned in the report.

As a result, the lyric drafts and related works created at the song camp mentioned in the report were not reflected in Kim Junsu’s fifth full-length album in any way, and all of the final results included in the currently released fifth full-length album are unrelated to this matter.

Nevertheless, we find it deeply regrettable that some reports are creating misunderstandings by linking a personal criminal case unrelated to our company to our company and our artist. Our company makes it clear that if A’s criminal acts are confirmed, they will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

We hope that the reputation of our company and our artist will not be damaged by unverified claims or false information. If false information continues to be spread in the future, we will consider taking necessary measures, including legal action, to protect the rights and interests of our company and our artist.

    Thank you.

    — Palm Tree Island

This is not the first time Kim Junsu’s name has been pulled into controversy because of people connected to him. Previously, the singer also faced public scrutiny after becoming involved in a blackmail case connected to a female BJ, with some netizens questioning his explanation despite his agency’s denial of wrongdoing.
