Siren’s Kiss: (ep. 1-4) this is WILD and I’m enjoying it! Seems like we’re leaning away from “femme fatale black-widow-ing her way through the world” to “victim of jealousy and obsession,” but hmm… The mystery is so interesting! What’s making the makjang even more fun is the music, which is opulently maximalist in the best way. Lol I have so many theories… 🧐

Undercover Miss Hong: Written by the same person who penned Into the Ring, one of my all-time favorites, it’s nearly impossible not to compare the two… while UMH isn’t as witty and sensitive as ITR, it makes excellent use of its fantastic ensemble. Miss Hong is cut from the same cloth as ITR’s Se-ra, rooting out corruption and tracking down the baddies with a grumpy exuberance. The finance plot is interesting enough, but the real draw for me was the relationships between all the characters. Some of my favorites were Miss Hong’s long-suffering boss and her risk management team (aww the sweet nerdy engineer). My sweet Albert, and kind Nora, and clever Bok-hee remained my favorites until the end! I never emotionally connected with this, but I had fun. This was a very enjoyable watch!
SML’s Universe: It was a quagmire of mediocrity. The narrative purposefully sidestepped all the good, interesting, and emotional things in the leads’ story (Bonding with bebe! Amy Choo! The ML’s angsty backstory!) to waste time on the SML and the love triangle. I don’t buy the romance here, because the story didn’t really show us why she made this choice, other than “the story said so and we’re running out of episodes.” There was no way this wasn’t going to have a happy ending, but it’s like they purposefully took the most annoying route to get there. A waste of an adorable baby who became little more than an accessory to the story, and of Bae In-hyuk, who felt more like the SML in his own drama. tl;dr: Better luck next time, bebes!

●Mom recently finished IDOL I, which she LOVED. Yay!! She also had a blast watching Boyfriend On Demand.
