Reasons to watch: The cutest cells in dramaland are back for tvN’s slice-of-life romance, Yumi’s Cells 3. Kim Go-eun returns as the titular Yumi, with Kim Jae-won joining as her romantic interest.
The new season picks up where we left off in Season 2, with Kim Yumi officially having made it as a literary star. She’s achieved her dream and her village of cells has seen a regime change with Writer Cell taking the mantle of Prime Cell. Though she’s living out her dream, monotony has started to creep into her life as she deals with the day-to-day reality of writing for a living.
Romance isn’t front of mind for her, not even when she first meets Kim Jae-won (her new editor). The laconic introvert doesn’t make a great first impression, but their jobs mean that she can’t avoid him even if she wanted to. And much to her (and Kim Jae-won’s surprise) their time together develops into the start of an unexpected romance with Kim coming out of his shell.
With Kim Go-eun and the creative team that helmed the first two seasons returning for Yumi’s Cells 3, this is likely a must-watch for anyone who enjoyed the previous seasons. Despite having mixed feelings about Season 2 (Bobby!) the Yumi’s series as a whole has been a lovely and touching drama, and I’m glad to have Kim Go-eun return to close out Yumi’s journey.
