IU Breaks Silence With Personal Apology Amid “Perfect Crown” Backlash
Most recently, IU posted an official apology on her Instagram account.
“Hello, this is IU, who played Sung Hui Ju in Perfect Crown. Over the past few days, I have carefully read all the comments left by viewers. I deeply apologize, and my heart remains heavy for failing to show a responsible attitude as the lead actor on this project and for the disappointment I caused.
I deeply regret and apologize without any excuses for acting without giving deeper thought to the various historical inaccuracies in the drama that was pointed out.
Because this project was important for capturing imagination through our unique history and Korea’s traditional beauty, I should have studied the script with greater caution as an actor, and I am ashamed of myself for failing to do so. I apologize for not properly anticipating the issues beforehand.
I thank everyone who watched the drama until the end and shared their unsparing feedback. I will always keep your valuable criticism and opinions in mind and will work harder to be an IU that approaches future projects with greater caution. I apologize once again.”

However, many netizens stood up for IU and couldn’t understand why she had to apologize.
Honestly, this isn’t the actors fault…we were so happy these past six weeks. I feel so bad…I will always support you! Hwaiting!
i am deeply hurt by what’s happening to iu right now. she doesn’t deserve all the hateful comments. she just had her birthday, and we should have been getting lots of bts pics from the final ep of perfect crown. instead, she posted an apology even though it wasnt her fault 😢
