Comedian Ji Suk Jin exposed singer Kim Jong Kook’s unusual habit.
In episode 11 of the Netflix daily variety show The Late Learner Mr. Jee released on June 1, professor Kim Kyung Il from the psychology department appears to discuss “the psychology behind spending money.”
On the show, OH MY GIRL‘s Mimi revealed her passion for comic books, saying, “I spend a lot on comic books. When a series is completed, I buy multiple volumes at once, and I also purchase new books.” Ji Suk Jin made the audience laugh by saying, “I’m happy when there’s a discount,” and admitting that he buys shoes even if they’re too big to wear, as long as the discount rate is high. He even shared, “I once took a trip because plane tickets were cheap,” revealing his unique spending habits.
Professor Kim Kyung Il described consumption as “human nature itself” and gave an intriguing analysis of consumer psychology. From the order in which convenience store products are displayed to the sequence of brand names, psychology is deeply involved in consumption. Particularly, he surprised everyone by explaining, “When trying to understand a person’s personality, looking at their consumption patterns reveals more than MBTI does.”
The professor also pointed out the correlation between psychological deficiencies and spending, stating that “loneliness, distress, and lack of sleep are the three main pillars of overspending.”
When Ji Suk Jin said, “I don’t understand people who buy several of the same item,” Mimi confessed, “That’s me,” revealing her habit of purchasing multiple copies if she likes something. Ji Suk Jin then joked, “The person I was talking about is sitting right next to me,” turning the scene into a burst of laughter.
Then, Ji Suk Jin amused viewers by saying, “Jong Kook wears the same pair of underwear every day. When I went to his house, he had about twenty of the exact same ones.” Meanwhile, Mimi candidly confessed, “If there’s something I want, I put it in my online shopping cart first and see how it feels,” sparking curiosity about the psychology behind the “shopping cart” and what analysis professor Kim Kyung Il will offer.
