So Ji-sub unleashes Manager Kim to save his only daughter
by tccolb
Promos are kicking into high gear on SBS’s Manager Kim, forcing doting dad So Ji-sub (Mercy for None) back into the dangers of the enemy field in the crime-thriller’s latest poster, teaser, as well as the script reading stills. But this time he’ll be teaming up with his fellow not-so-ordinary dads, Choi Dae-hoon (The WONDERfools) and Yoon Kyung-ho (The Legend of Kitchen Soldier).
Our titular hero was once a shadowy operative, deftly carrying out missions as a double agent across both North and South Korea. But upon the dying wishes of his late wife, Kim buried his true identity for the sake of their precious daughter Min-ji (teenage version played by Seo Soo-min) and became a regular corporate grunt to blend in with the South Korean masses.
This brings Kim into the circles of the other neighborhood dads, including Sung Han-soo (Choi Dae-hoon) – a.k.a. Tae-hoon’s Dad – who runs the local taekwondo academy for kids. Although Han-soo is known to be a former gold medalist, most people will never know that he’s also a retired black-ops agent.
Similarly, military man Park Jin-chul (Yoon Kyung-ho) is infamous as a battle god from his many assignments in Asia. And he even channeled some of his wildness into being a rock musician in his youth. But the fierce Jin-chul is a fool in love when it comes to his kid and his proudest life achievement is being Da-bin’s Dad.
However, after more than 10 years of peace, someone thought they could get away with abducting Min-ji. The boss is thus furious that they’ve disturbed the dormant bomb who would have otherwise remained out of their way. And it doesn’t take ten guesses to figure out which way Kim’s explosives will be directed.
Among the main baddies, Kim and team will be facing off against Joo Sang-wook (Buried Hearts), a self-made and ruthlesss chairman of a construction company. And he leans on the ‟cleaning” services of the begrudging CEO Jo Bok-rae (Sold Out on You) to solve all his pesky problems, whether it be a matter of money and/or violence.
We can also expect to see Kim’s ~mysterious~ co-worker Sohn Na-eun (The Tale of Lady Ok) as well as North Korean agent Kim Sung-kyu (Taxi Driver 3) on a covert mission, in addition to Lee Dong-ha (Made in Korea) and Won Hyun-joon (Walking on Thin Ice) among others in the supporting cast.
The webtoon-adaptation is set to premiere this month on June 26, following My Royal Nemesis in the weekend slot. PD Lee Seung-young (Wonderful World, Tracer) and rookie PD Lee So-eun are at the helm, with scripts penned by screenwriter Nam Dae-joong (The First Ride, Love Reset).
