tvN has announced the start of a new suspense series, ladening Ha Jung-woo (Narco-Saints) with heavy mortgage debts due to his Mad Concrete Dreams (previously How to Become a Building Owner in South Korea) and ensnaring him in this crime-thriller tale alongside the main cast ensemble in the first script reading stills.
In some ways, it was a dream come true to purchase his own building and – theoretically – make money from tenants by renting out the units. But Ki Su-jong (Ha Jung-woo) stretched his finances too thin and is crumbling under the mountainous loans that helped pay for the property.
Su-jong’s hand is thus forced when he’s somehow roped into a fake kidnapping scheme because it’s the only way to protect his wife Kim Sun – played by Im Soo-jung (Low Life) – in addition to saving their building. In contrast to the anxious Su-jong, though, Sun remains calm and collected when facing this new danger together.
Also mired in this mess are Su-jong and Sun’s close married couple friends: Kim Joon-han (Newtopia) in the role of the ambitious-but-so-far-unsuccessful Min Hwal-sung, as well as his wife Krystal (Way Back Love) playing the property-wealthy and covetous Jeon Yi-kyung.
Last but not least, we can also expect to see Shim Eun-kyung (Way Back Love) as what seems to be an antagonist and inscrutable character named Yo-na. As an employee at our story’s Real Capital corporation, I presume she’s the person in charge of Su-jong’s loan account.
Production for the series has filmmaker Im Pil-sung (Persona, Scarlet Innocence) at the helm with scripts penned by novelist Oh Han-ki (Baguette Child Soldier), marking their drama debut. Slated to air on weekends following Undercover Miss Hong, tvN’s upcoming Mad Concrete Dreams will be premiering on March 14.
