Former ENHYPEN member Heeseung, now promoting as soloist EVAN, has directly addressed questions surrounding his decision to leave the group and pursue music on his own.
On September 7, EVAN held a press showcase at Kyung Hee University’s Grand Peace Palace in Seoul for his first mini album, DEATH OF ME. During the event, EVAN spoke candidly about concerns surrounding his transition into a solo career and did not shy away from questions about ENHYPEN.
One reporter asked a question that many fans have raised since his departure: Why couldn’t Heeseung release his own music while simply remaining a member of ENHYPEN? The reporter also asked whether he experienced any anxiety or regret about leaving, particularly as ENHYPEN has continued reaching new career highs.
EVAN was careful with his response to the first part.
“The process of going solo involves so many people, so I ask for your understanding that it’s difficult for me to answer that part.”
The group recently achieved its first-ever No. 1 on the Billboard 200, a milestone EVAN said made him proud.
“I’m proud of them. Reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 isn’t an easy goal to achieve. I think the best thing is for me to continue working hard as well and for all of us to show our best in our respective positions.”
Rather than expressing regret about leaving before the milestone, EVAN framed his departure as a decision he made only after considerable thought.
“I decided to stand on my own after thinking deeply about it.”
He also reflected on the reception to his first steps as a soloist.
“Thankfully, I was able to successfully complete promotions for my debut single, and I feel the amount of love I received was more than I deserved. It feels especially meaningful that I’ve now been able to release my first mini album as well. I want to repay all the love I’ve received through a variety of music.”
DEATH OF ME, released on September 7, contains eight tracks, including its title track of the same name. Notably, EVAN took charge of production across the album, giving him considerably greater involvement in shaping the project.
According to EVAN, the record contains the conflicting emotions he has experienced while beginning this new chapter: fear about what lies ahead alongside an equally powerful desire to keep moving forward and accomplish more.
