JTBC’s upcoming caper comedy Apartment stars Ji Sung (The Judge Returns) as an ex-gangster running to be president… of his apartment complex. Lest you scoff at the lowly stakes, the building’s maintenance funds turn out to be quite the sum, and our reformed hero discovers something nefarious going around the building.
Park Hae-kang (Ji Sung) was once the infamous mob boss of the Oasis gang, but now runs a money-lending business. When he hears that he needs 10 billion won to save his father figure, he turns his attention to the apartment’s long-term maintenance funds which equate to that exact amount. Thus, a scheme is hatched to form a fake family, but our ex-gangster inadvertently becomes a hero amongst the residents as he actually fights to make the place better and learn from those around him.
Getting entangled in Hae-kang’s misadventures is aspiring attorney Kang Ha-ri played by Ha Yoon-kyung (Undercover Miss Hong). After failing the bar exam multiple times, Ha-ri lies to her older sister Ryu Hyun-kyung (The Frog) that a firm hired her when in reality, the only job she ends up getting is becoming Hae-kang’s fake wife for three months.
Standing in opposition to Hae-kang is Park Byung-eun (Dear Hongrang) as penthouse resident Lee Choong-won. Growing up in poverty turned Choong-won money-hungry, and though he has found success, it does not seem to be enough. When he figures out Hae-kang’s ploy to steal the building’s maintenance funds, he fights against the purported “hero” of their apartment.
Every neighborhood has the nosy busybody, and around these parts that role belongs to Jang Sook-jin played by Moon Sori (When Life Gives You Tangerines). Her hobby is knowing everything that is happening around their building and visiting the management office everyday as if it was her job.
In addition to the main quartet, the supporting cast includes familiar names like Kim Won-hae (The Practical Guide to Love), Baek Hyun-jin (The Scarecrow), and Jung Seung-gil (Phantom Lawyer) among others. Written by Kim Yoon-young (My Strange Hero) with PD Jo Yong-won (Missing Child) at the helm, JTBC’s Apartment premieres next month in July.
