The sexualization of minors in the K-Pop idol industry has become a throbbing concern for fans worldwide, prompting them to be more vigilant than ever before. So, when the internet saw a 17-year-old girl group member carrying out a sensual solo dance routine at her group’s concert, backlash followed quickly.
BABYMONSTER’s Chiquita, the idol in question, recently went viral after a clip of her performing Fifth Harmony’s “Worth It” at her group’s Choom World Tour concert in Seoul.

The routine started off with the idol performing against a red background, executing sexy movements and a provocative floor choreography. The rest of the performance also had a sexy and mature aura, which Chiquita carried effortlessly.

Netizens’ focus, however, was not on how well the BABYMONSTER member performed, but on the fact that YG Entertainment was pushing such a sexualized image on a minor idol. Many found this performance, as well as the overall marketing image of BABYMONSTER, disturbing.
