SM Entertainment is currently in the center of a controversy after BTS fans levied serious accusations of plagiarism against the label.

It began with NCT Wish’s latest album, Ode to Love, which was released on April 20. Fans noted that two of the songs on the album had the same title as two recent BTS releases.

This opened a floodgate of accusations as others hopped in with more instances of similar supposed plagiarism. Firstly, many argued that NCT Wish’s lyrics for “2.0” closely resembled those of BTS, making the song title a deliberate decision.

Other accusations included NCT Dream’s song, “Life Is Still Going On,” which, aside from the title itself, many fans felt was visually copied from BTS’s “Life Goes On.”

SM’s weird obsession with bts honestly needs to be studied, it’s been going on for a whole decade now. https://t.co/n0TiUC0xHX pic.twitter.com/yvhjQ3fMaB

Another accusation that resurfaced was SuperM’s “We Do” resembling BTS’s “Dynamite.”

I remember after the success of Dynamite, they tried to copy it with english song thinking they can reach its success😭😭😭 pic.twitter.com/yp08wpqaQ7

In fact, fans cited many more instances when SM Entertainment’s releases were accused of being eerily similar to those of BTS.

While some brush these off as “trends,” the tight timing and blatant overlaps point to a clear pattern. SM seems to be using BTS’s creative direction as a direct blueprint, “borrowing” their success to guarantee their own hits. pic.twitter.com/WeNDR3RKUJ

    SM SAID : FVVK ORIGINALITY!!
    I’M GONNA PLAGIARIZED BTS, PROUDLY 🫪 https://t.co/uQMWwBYYrU pic.twitter.com/5aAA3S6wwJ

People also highlighted how TXT’s music video director straight up called out the team behind NCT Wish’s music video titled “Find My Wish,” accusing them of plagiarizing the entire visual concept of “Map Of A Star.”

wonmo seong (digipedi) the director of ‘nap of a star mv’ posted about the plagiarism issue!

“the advertising industry is ruined, the gaming industry is ruined, and now those people and their systems are flocking here to ruin k-pop. i won’t share the details but let’s just not… pic.twitter.com/ZVnVXdmsLG

A similar incident involving NCT Dream and TXT’s producer also occurred in 2021, which people brought up after the latest NCT Wish fiasco.

In 2021, SM was caught using a beat for NCT Dream’s “Countdown (3, 2, 1)” that was nearly identical to a TXT producer’s work. Instead of fighting in court, they silently added the original HYBE producers to the credits months later, to avoid a definitive “guilty” verdict

Some also highlighted SM’s alleged plagiarism of other groups aside from BTS and TXT, including P1Harmony.

    when this happened?

While these mounting allegations are concerning, SM Entertainment is not new to such controversies.
