The police have applied for an arrest warrant for Cha Ga Won, CEO of the entertainment agency ONE HUNDRED.
On the 15th, Yonhap News reported that the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Financial Crime Investigation Unit recently applied for an arrest warrant for Cha under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes, including fraud.
The prosecution is currently reviewing the request for the arrest warrant.
Cha is accused of proposing a business using the intellectual property (IP) of entertainers under her agency to a company called Knowmerce Corp., signing a contract, and receiving an advance payment of ₩24.2 billion KRW (about $15.9 million USD), but failing to actually carry out the business.
The police suspect that Cha concealed from Knowmerce the fact that she had already signed a contract with another company that was not expected to end soon, effectively entering into double contracts, and that she was not prepared to execute the business.
Separately, Cha is also accused of receiving ₩5.40 billion KRW (about $3.56 million USD) in deposit money by agreeing with an acquaintance to sign a lease contract on each other’s homes but then failing to fulfill the contract herself.
Cha’s side stated, “We deeply regret that, despite confirmed illegality during the search and seizure process that led to even filing a motion for reconsideration, an arrest warrant has still been requested,” adding, “We plan to file a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission against the investigation team leader and investigators for human rights violations during the investigation process.”
