Finally graduating university more after than a decade, a popular second-generation idol has opened up about not being able to go to school as a minor in the K-Pop industry.

Former Dal Shabet member Park Subin, also known as Dalsooobin, recently shared photos from her graduation ceremony at Konkuk University on Instagram, but reaching that milestone wasn’t easy for her given her childhood as an idol.
I, who was full of shortcomings, managed to graduate from school through sheer determination.

Subin made her debut in 2011 at the age of just 16. In the post’s caption, she recalled the grueling schedule she had to keep up with in order to balance her entertainment career with her studies.

When I had to attend a 9:00 AM class, I’d go to the salon at 7:00 AM, then go to school for class, then head to a filming set. If filming ended early, I’d rush back to attend class.

The second-gen star went on to explain that she hadn’t been able to attend school since she was 15 years old, presumably as a result of her schedule as a trainee and later K-Pop idol. That struggle led to an emotional longing that made her feel determined to finish her university degree despite the difficulties.

My school, which cost me so much time, tears, and money. A lot of people asked whether there was really any reason for me to keep attending school. I think I simply had a sense of lack and a longing because I hadn’t been able to go to school since I was 15.

Subin’s graduation is made all the more special by how long it took her to complete her studies. The media first reported that Subin had been accepted to Konkuk University (as well as Dongduk Women’s University) through early admission in November 2012. Majoring in Theater and Film at Konkuk University’s College of Art and Design, she was one of just 14 applicants accepted into the program for 2013.

Now, after finally finishing her degree, Subin shared that she hopes to perform at her university one day. She released her most recent single as a soloist, “MUCK,” in 2024.
