A popular K-Pop idol mentioned what it’s like to be a creator, confessing that producing a song is not an easy process.
On the JTBC program Newsroom aired on September 5th, i-dle’s Soyeon appeared for an interview.
That day, Soyeon drew attention by directly addressing the pressure she feels as the group’s leader and producer of numerous hit songs. When asked about the shortest time it took to create a song, she revealed, “Actually, I’m the type who takes a very long time to write songs. I think I needed at least a month for each one.”
The song that took the longest was “Tomboy.” Soyeon explained, “I wrote dozens of songs over the course of a year to finally reach ‘Tomboy.’ It’s also a song that brought us our biggest success, so I feel a lot of affection for it.”
Ahead of the release of her first solo full-length album, What A Wonderful Life, on the 7th, Soyeon said, “It’s an album that reflects my honesty and the 29-year-old Jeon Soyeon.” She added, “The title track ‘I’m Quitting’ is meant to give a sense of liberation to everyone who listens.”
Earlier, Soyeon revealed on a web variety show, “When copyright royalties are at their highest, I earn up to ₩1.00 billion KRW (about $743,000 USD) a month. When they don’t come in, sometimes I earn only ₩100,000 KRW (about $74.30 USD).” This underscores the many hit songs she has written and composed.
Despite releasing many hits, Soyeon admits to having fears. She confessed, “I’m scared every day, and I’m in a slump every day. Whenever I write a song, I think, ‘How did I ever write a song like that?’ or ‘Do I no longer have talent?’”
Soyeon said, “But if I endure and persevere through it, I eventually overcome it. Because of that experience, even when I think ‘This time it’s really over,’ I manage to hold on. I think those who endure win in the end.”
