Reasons to watch: JTBC is throwing us into a story of family dysfunction, wealth, and bodyswapping in its newest drama, Reborn Rookie. It stars Lee Jun-young and Lee Joo-myung, with Jeon Hye-jin, Jin Gu, and Sohn Hyun-joo rounding out the main cast.
The story begins with the start and end of a dream. Lee Jun-young plays an aspiring soccer player who has just joined a team owned by Sohn Hyun-joo’s corporation. But before he can ever take to the field, he has a literal run-in with Sohn’s eldest children (Jeon Hye-jin and Jin Gu) and the resulting injuries mean it’s unlikely he’ll ever be able to play professionally. When he accosts Sohn, believing him to be the man behind the run-in, they suffer an accident together that ends up with their souls being swapped.
The chairman now seems to be in a coma, but he’s alive and well within Lee Jun-young’s body. His new form helps the chairman realizes that his own children are plotting to take the company for themselves and that his oldest two have been actively stealing company funds. When he’s offered an intern position at the company as part of a PR move, he takes the offer and finds himself teaming up with his youngest daughter (played by Lee Joo-myung) in an attempt to fix his company and stop his children from causing more harm.
If you love a redemption story and family drama, this could be for you. We’re talking complicated relationships all around but with dashes of comedy and mystery mixed in as our protagonists work to set their world right. If you enjoyed Reborn Rich you should give this one a try as both dramas are adapted from web novels by San Kyung.
