Actor Jung Suk Won, who is also known as vocalist Baek Ji Young‘s much-younger husband with a controversial past involving drugs, has given his fans a long-awaited update on his career, revealing that he’s not only back to work, but actively preparing for his next acting role after a prolonged hiatus.

On April 19, a new video was uploaded to singer Baek Ji Young’s YouTube channel, offering a glimpse into Jung Suk Won’s current daily life. While his wife and their daughter spent time in New Zealand, the actor remained in Korea, where he has quietly been reporting to a new “job.”
“I’ve been going to the Seoul Action School lately,” the actor shared, explaining that he is currently working as a special instructor for the trainees there. What began as personal training for an upcoming project turned into a six-month teaching opportunity after famed martial arts director Jung Doo Hong proposed that he step in as a guest instructor. Jung Suk Won now spends his days training aspiring action actors, guiding them through physical conditioning and basic movement techniques. Despite the physically demanding role, he showed a sense of humor about the challenges.
I tried demonstrating a special kick and ended up falling and injuring my arm. More than the pain, it was just embarrassing!

At the same time, the actor confirmed he is actively preparing for a comeback project—his first in roughly three years. His last appearance was in the Netflix series Sweet Home Season 2 in 2023, after which his acting activities slowed significantly. When asked about the nature of his upcoming role, Jung Suk Won offered a blunt and self-aware response. “I can’t really do romances anymore. That’s not for just anyone,” he joked.
It’s not that I’m picky… those offers just don’t come in.
Besides, I don’t go around calling myself an ‘actor.’ I just say I’m someone who acts. That’s more accurate. Honestly, I just say I’m Baek Ji Young’s husband.

Jung Suk Won debuted in 2008 with the film The Divine Weapon and was well on his way to building a diverse filmography spanning dramas like Rooftop Prince, IRIS 2, and Bad Guys: City of Evil, along with films such as The Tiger and The Prison. However, his on-screen presence has been noticeably sparse following his 2018 drug-related case, which resulted in a 10-month prison sentence suspended for two years.

The controversy ultimately led to his permanent ban from appearances on major public broadcasters KBS, EBS, and MBC in September 2020. Since then, updates on his life have been shared sporadically through his wife Baek Ji Young’s social media, with the actor largely remaining out of the public spotlight and hence being dubbed the vocalist’s “trophy husband.”
