On Sunday, February 1, the 68th Grammy Awards took place, honoring the last year in music from some of the biggest artists in the world.

This year, K-Pop as a genre was given more nods than ever, with KPop Demon Hunters and BLACKPINK‘s Rosé earning multiple nominations in different categories. Rosé’s “APT.” was nominated for “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance,” “Song Of The Year,” and “Record Of The Year.”

Before the main award show began, several awards were announced, including “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.” In the category, KPop Demon Hunters —  HUNT/X: Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami’s “Golden,” KATSEYE’s “Gabriela,” Rosé and Bruno Mars’ “APT,” SZA’s (feat Kendrick Lamar) “30 for 30,” and Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande’s “Defying Gravity” were all nominated.

The category’s results have attracted attention beyond regular interest, driven by a surprising connection to BTS.

In 2021, BTS became the first K-Pop act to receive a Grammy nomination for their track “Dynamite.”

While many fans were hopeful the group would also become the first to win, the much-discussed award went to Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande for “Rain On Me.” This year, the award was won by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, making it the second time Ariana Grande has blocked a K-Pop act from winning their first nomination in the category.

This was brought up after the announcement, with some remarking that fanwars using the category would change as a result.

Immm gonna cry not because Ariana won her 3rd unexpected Grammy but that bts and rose now both lose to Ariana
They both can’t drag each other bow 😭😭😭😭😭 !!!!!!
I’m sorry but this is hilarious https://t.co/Z6G8Memg7q
