    The criticism was honestly brutal.

IU‘s past appearance and performance in a top K-Drama have subjected the idol to criticism amid the ongoing controversies with her new show.

IU has been wrapped up in controversy with her K-Drama Perfect Crown.

Amid the controversy, past actions of IU have come under fire and brought back.

In particular, among Korean fans, IU’s performance in Hotel del Luna has been brought up.

An OP claimed that IU was good in the iconic K-Drama and that her character and the vibes were similar to Perfect Crown.

Wasn’t IU good in Hotel del Luna?

Hotel del Luna and Perfect Crown have similar character vibes, styling, and tone, so why did Hotel del Luna feel like such a fitting role for her, while the other one feels off? If you really think about it, Hotel del Luna seems like the much harder role acting-wise.

    — OP

Yet, the comments hugely disagreed with the OP, and it led to major backlash towards IU as an actress, claiming that other projects she did were helped by strong male actors and as this isn’t present in Perfect Crown, it shows just how poor IU’s skills have always been.

    | Nate Pann

    • “She doesn’t suit roles where she’s supposed to be a rich, elegant chaebol beauty. She fits better when the character has a tragic backstory, hardship, or a rough vibe. Also, she can’t really carry a drama as the sole lead. Looking at the projects that got good reactions, the male co-stars were actors where you’d think, ‘How did an IU-level actress get paired with someone that strong?’ Yeo Jin Goo, Lee Sun Kyun, Lee Joon Gi, Park Bo Gum, honestly, none of them are actors you can criticize for poor acting.”’
    • “She just doesn’t have natural talent for acting. Her facial expressions and acting tone are always the same, and instead of seeing the character, I only see ‘IU acting.’

Even the narration in When Life Gives You Tangerines was hard to listen to.”

    •

“That drama worked because the male lead supported her performance. In the newer drama, the male lead can’t act either, so the whole thing falls apart.

    • “Back then and now, people stayed quiet because of how aggressive the fans were. It was always the same.”
    • “Back then, the male lead at least balanced things out, but in this drama, both leads are weak, so it’s a mess.”
    • “IU tends to suit characters with emotional baggage. Jang Man Wol in Hotel del Luna had a deep backstory, so she worked reasonably well there.

But she’s not very good at pulling off roles that are simply elegant and dignified.”
