A JYP Entertainment idol met with children aspiring to be idols and opened up about the repeated failures he faced while trying to join the agency.
On August 24th, a video titled “I Give It My All (Even Against Kids)” was uploaded on 2PM member Jang Wooyoung‘s YouTube channel.
In the video, Jang Wooyoung spent time dancing and talking with kids who dream of becoming idols.
One child asked when he first wanted to become an idol, and Jang Wooyoung recalled, “It was around when I was 11 or 12 years old,” adding, “After deciding I wanted to become an idol, I kept practicing and took JYP auditions every six months.”
He said, “I thought it would take about six months to improve, so I kept auditioning twice a year,” and revealed, “I failed the JYP audition about six times. Then I passed on the seventh try and joined,” drawing attention.
Later, a parent asked, “What should not be done to become an idol?” Jang Wooyoung answered, “Singing, dancing, and skills are obviously very important, but there are many things you should not do as well. I hope you don’t focus only on practicing singing and dancing.”
He added, “I hope you enjoy the time with friends around you, your parents, and time at home as much as possible,” and warmly said, “I hope you attach dreams like ‘What kind of songs do I like?’ or ‘What kind of singer do I want to become?’ one by one in the back.”
