A singer has been sentenced following a drinking and driving case.

In late December 2024, Taiwanese singer Kui consumed large amounts of alcohol from midnight until 4 a.m., at which point he drove to a friend’s residence. At around 4:16 a.m, the singer struck two taxi drivers, Lee and Chen, and continued on, running a red light and ignoring a bystander’s yells that he had hit someone.

Chen survived the accident, but Lee suffered extensive injuries and later died from them at the hospital on January 3.

Kui was called in for questioning on December 29 and continued his schedule, which included several performances. He posted about one such performance on Instagram, mentioning hopes for 2025.

According to the reports, a spider-web crack from the accident on the right side of the front windshield was discovered on Kui’s car when it was seized from a repair shop. The memory card from the dashcam was also reported as missing.

Kui had previously received a deferred prosecution for drunk driving, which influenced the verdict in the case.

Kui was sentenced to eight years for causing death while driving under the influence and three years and six months for fleeing the scene of an accident resulting in death or injury, resulting in a combined sentence of ten years.

The sentence in the case was delivered in late April but was recently updated to include a ban on traveling outside the country for the next eight months, as he is able to appeal.
