Park We, husband of SECRET‘s Song Jieun, candidly shared his life and hope after being diagnosed with complete paralysis.

On the 20th, a video titled “Park We Shows a Miracle After Being Diagnosed with Complete Paralysis, What Are the Chances of Standing Up?” was posted on the YouTube channel Together With Sean.

In the video, Park We said, “It has been 12 years since I was diagnosed with complete paralysis. Even now, I believe that someday I will stand up,” revealing that he still hasn’t given up hope.

Recalling the situation right after the accident, Park We said, “At first, I was diagnosed with complete paralysis and was told there was no chance of improvement,” adding, “I was told I wouldn’t even be able to raise my hand.”

But Park We did not give up. He explained, “I fought with all my might to survive and underwent rehabilitation. I kept trying to exert strength even in parts that didn’t move. Like the feeling of pressing on a fingernail—though it actually didn’t work, I believed it did and repeated it,” he said. He added, “After about two years, movement gradually started to return.”

Currently, Park We uses a manual wheelchair and leads an independent life. He emphasized, “I drive myself and can live on my own now,” adding, “Rehabilitation wasn’t only physical but also mental.”

His wife Song Jieun also said her perspective changed as she observed her husband’s transformation. She said, “At first, I wanted to help him, but I realized that if I helped too much, it would block his chance to grow,” and added, “I learned that waiting patiently is important.”

Regarding the “chance to return to before the accident,” Park We said, “Physically, I am uncomfortable, but my life is richer now. If I hadn’t been injured, I wouldn’t have known these values and happiness. I am grateful for my current life.”

However, he did not lose hope. Park We said, “Nerve regeneration and surgical techniques are advancing,” and added, “If an opportunity comes, I am willing to try clinical trials.” He explained, “Even if I can never stand up, the belief itself that ‘I will stand up’ is the driving force of my life.”

Park Wi also shared what he wants to do most if he regains the ability to stand. He said, “I want to play soccer again,” admitting, “I want to show my wife who I was.” He also said, “I want to hold her hand and walk down the street, and I definitely want to give Jieun a back hug. That’s the most ordinary but biggest dream.”

Song Jieun agreed, saying, “It’s nothing special, just walking through everyday life together.” The two showed tears while looking at each other, and that moment deeply moved the viewers.

Meanwhile, Park We has shared his process of overcoming complete paralysis caused by a fall accident in 2014, giving hope to many. Recently, regarding the controversy over switching their couple-run YouTube channel Wearcle to a paid membership, he expressed, “It pains me that a decision made after long consideration for high-quality videos seems to have hurt someone.”
