Visually Impaired YouTuber Gets Compared To Paraplegic YouTuber Park We Amid Controversy

The controversy surrounding Park We has once again been revived, this time due to a video uploaded by a visually impaired YouTuber who is also a friend of Park We.

On October 29th, the YouTube channel OneShot Hansol uploaded a video titled “Went all the way to Daejeon alone to buy a gift for my girlfriend, and this happened… It made me tear up.”

The video shows OneShot Hansol secretly boarding a train to Daejeon alone to buy bread from the famous bakery Sungsimdang as a gift for his girlfriend.

In the video, OneShot Hansol receives courtesy seating from passengers at the Seoul Station subway, boards the train safely with guidance from Korail staff and community service workers, and receives meticulous walking assistance from station staff upon arrival at Daejeon Station. Each time he receives small help, he repeatedly bows and says, “Thank you,” “I’m sorry and grateful.”

The considerate treatment at Sungsimdang, a Daejeon landmark, stood out. When an employee noticed him struggling in the long line, they blocked vehicles to safely clear his path. Inside the store, staff cautiously asked, “If you don’t have someone with you, would you be okay with being assisted?” before guiding him by holding his arm. Even the cake shop staff willingly helped so he could safely get the bread he wanted.

Right after the video was posted, comments included remarks like “It’s impressive how he constantly says ‘thank you’ even for small acts of help,” “I saw the true dignity of a society living together,” and “This is exactly the positive function of YouTube.”

At the same time, criticism in the comments turned towards Park We. Many netizens said, “This is a stark contrast to Park We’s video,” “Park We should learn from this video,” and “The mindset and response are worlds apart from someone else,” expressing sharp reactions.

The context behind Park We’s mention among netizens stems from the “KTX fall accident” controversy in August. At that time, Park We was disembarking using the wheelchair ramp when he tripped over the foot of a community service worker assisting him. Park We later uploaded the CCTV footage on his YouTube channel, but since the community service worker’s face was shown without a mosaic blur, a “witch hunt” controversy erupted.

Facing strong criticism, Park We removed the video, apologized saying “the way I conveyed it was immature,” but the public’s disappointment did not easily subside.

The contrast between Park We’s video, which publicized the community service worker’s mistake leading to an apology, and OneShot Hansol’s actions, who repeatedly bowed and conveyed warmth even for small acts of kindness, leaves a bitter aftertaste and lingering impression.
